1 March 1974 – Formation of Malaysian Association of Hotels and Restaurants (MAHAR)

1975

18 May 1975 – officially registered with Registrar of Societies

1982

MAHAR changed name to MAH

1989

Adoption of new Logo – Ladder of Progress

MAH First Annual Convention at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur 25 March 1989

1990

MAH Secretariat moved into MATIC (currently MTC) at 109 Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur

1993

The first Culinaire Malaysia 1993

1994

MAH HRD Plan – Diploma in Hotel Management First Intake

MAH Legal Fund was set up to fund issues requiring legal representation for the hotel industry

1995

MAHTEC Sdn Bhd was officially incorporated with Registrar of Companies

MAH Training Centre was set up at Menara Haw Par, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

The Diploma in Hotel Management was registered as an “Approved Training Programme” under HRDF.

1996

MAH Secretariat moved to Desa Pandan

1998

MAH Website www.hotels.org.my was developed

MAHTEC Sdn Bhd commenced its fiscal year

1999

MAH 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner

2000

New logo was adopted

Launch of MAH website

2001

MAH Secretariat and MAHTEC Sdn Bhd moved to its new permanent home at Wisma MAH, One Ampang Avenue

Amendments to Constitution to include Chapters was accepted and approved by ROS

Establishment of MAH 13 Chapters

MAH’s first Chapter was formed in Sarawak on 8 June 2001. Perak, Terengganu, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Kedah and Selangor followed soon after

Kelantan, Malacca, Johor and Kuala Lumpur Chapters were formed

The final Chapter – Sabah was established

MAH sits on Tourism Malaysia Crisis Management Committee due to Effects of US-Iraq War in Tourism & SARS outbreak

2004

MAH 30th Anniversary

Manage to reduce no. of hotel licenses from 76 to 21 composite licenses

MAH sits on the National Crisis Management Committee led by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia due to Tsunami

2007

MACP & PPM fees – negotiated and achieved for the lowest rate in the market

PEMUDAH – managed to shorten the period of licences application process – from 72 licences to 44 licences for hotel industry

2010

MAH first appointed by Ministry Of Human Resources (MOHR) as ILB for Hospitality & Tourism service

Launch of Green guideline for hotels
MAH worked together with Green Building Index (GBI) to release a guideline that would help hotels and resorts become more energy efficient and achieve green accreditation.

2019

Launch of Industrial Skills Framework (Indsf 1.0) For Hotels MAH and the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) made a joint effort to develop the Industrial Skills Framework (Indsf) for hotels.

IndSF is a guideline for individuals, employers and training providers to promote life learning and skills mastery to enhance the quality of training for the hotel industry.

2020

Clean & Safe – The Hygiene Excellence and Safety Label Program
To facilitate a safer business restart after Covid-19 lockdown, MAH had signed an agreement with Bureau Veritas to deploy the “Clean & Safe Malaysia” Hygiene Excellence and Safety Label to the entire hospitality industry.

Supported by MOTAC, this label will ensure that appropriate health, safety and hygiene procedures and processes are in place and in line with globally recognized best practices and recommendations related to preventive measures.

2021

Formation of Travel Safety Alliance Malaysia (TSAM)
MAH along with the nation’s three major players in Malaysia’s tourism, business events and airline industry formed a united front to increase market confidence in Malaysia as a business and leisure travel destination during Covid-19.

MAH Cares Program
To support MAH’s community that have been devastated by the global pandemic, over RM200,000 worth of essentials and food supplies were distributed through the state chapters to those in need within the hospitality industry.

A total of 4,926 individual beneficiaries, 302 hotels and RM299,440 worth of aid spent for the program.

2022

MAH-Tourism Malaysia & Shopee Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Subsidy Program 2022.
At its conclusion, the program had benefitted more than 230 MAH members and generated in approximate, RM 5.1mil in income.

2023

Culinaire Malaysia 2023, Post-pandemic Grand Return
1144 participants from 12 countries competed across 37 classes.

573 medals conferred, consisted of 321 Bronze, 173 Silver, 78 Gold medals, and 1 Gold with Distinction.
